Under Attack By The Dependence Mongers: Independence Day 2020-07-02

02 July 2020 @ 15:56

On 02 July 1776, The Second Continental Congress passed The Declaration Of Independence.

As John Adams wrote the next day to his wife Abigail:

My Dearest Friend,

…The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epocha in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival.

It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forevermore.

You will think me transported with enthusiasm, but I am not. I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost us to maintain this Declaration and support and defend these States. Yet, through all the gloom, I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is more than worth all the means. And that posterity will triumph in that day’s transaction, even although we should rue it, which I trust in God we shall not.

—John Adams, Letter to Abigail Adams, 03 July 1776

[Of course, we celebrate the Fourth of July, instead of the Second. It’s not that Mr. Adams got it wrong because The Declaration was passed on 02 July, but the adoption of it did not become official until 04 July.]

There’s not much to celebrate this year as we watch America descend into a Revolutionary Madness, fueled by Ignorance, a Willful Blindness that will lead to Misery and Death.

History, of course, does not repeat itself; rather, it rhymes.  In the whole of recorded History, there has never been an exact repeat of past events.  But we can see in those past events strands of Cause and Effect that can, indeed, repeat — certainly Resonate and provide us with Valuable Lessons for the present situation.

These days, I find myself thinking back to the 1905 and 1917 Russian Revolutions.  They contain those strands that should make us tremble.

They should also promprt us into Action.

In future posts, I will put before you some ideas I have on this matter.  Right now, I’m still collecting my thoughts and trying to subdue my Anger.  I am disappointed in my Fellow Americans.

The GOPe and The Conservative Beautiful People remind me of John Wilkes Booth as he lay dying when he looked at his hands and said ‘Useless…useless’.

We must take back the Spirit of The Founders…and it won’t be easy.

From city and town governments up through the national government, we are witnessing a Hardening of that Soft Fascism I’ve been warning about since 2006.

It is quite clear now to me that America, the physical version, must be split-up [more on this in future posts].

I would like to end on a Note Of Hope, provided by the Great Martyr of The War For Independence, Doctor / Brigadier General Joseph Warren:

Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.

Time to go #OUTLAW.

God Bless America.
