Perilous Times: On The Radical Young Left

20 February 2020 @ 17:32

Over in a recent Facebook post, Richard Fernandez [aka: Wretchard T. Cat] remarked:

Why did the alliance between the left and the Bloombergs/Hillary wing suddenly collapse after lasting so many years? Is it a sudden realization of the other’s defects or the inability to win power?

The ability to win power seems paramount. Policy differences are declared unimportant compared to beating Trump. The criticism of Sanders is that he can’t beat Trump. There’s currently no reality beyond the Donald.

Indeed.  That’s why I think there is still a potential for the Democrats to band together after their Convention, like they have in the past.

However, if Bolshevik Bernie doesn’t get the nod through Chicanery a second time, the Radical Young Left may Abandon whoever gets it.  They are have evolved into a group that is Extremely Frustrated and more Willing to use Violence.  They feel that they have waited long enough, that they’re moment when Destiny has called them is here and they worry that their time might pass.

More from Wretchard:

The irony is if the Democrats could find a political mission beyond merely rerunning 2016 they might actually win. Trump is the excuse for not reinventing themselves. Hating Donald is the only thing that keeps a husk alive.

This might be the glue that binds the various Leftist cells.  But as I said, the Bernie Bolshes might not be willing to take it anymore if their man is denied what they see as his rightful place.

Don Surber captures the chaos that is gnawing at the guts of progressives. Without Trump they might turn on themselves.

It’s an extraordinary spectacle and an unhealthy development. Every administration needs an opposition to achieve check and balance. What’s happening?

The French Revolution was accomplished because the forces in the various factions on the Left pushed it through.  However, the more Radical of them [relatively speaking, of course — they were, all of them, Radical] broke away from the others and staged a Bloody Coup, because they couldn’t wait to Immanentize The Eschaton.

Thus came The Terror and the Horrid Inspiration it provided to future Revolutionaries — and to the Ignoramuses that now make up the Radical Young Left.

The Leftist Opposition is suffering from an Acute case of Trump Derangement Syndrome and this is preventing them from acting Effectively.  In a way, this looks like a good situation for The Right, but it is not.

The Radical Young Left are not, and never will be, content to stay in with the New New Left of Pelosi and Obama.  They have no Compunction about committing acts of Pillage and other Violences.  Out of Frustration, the RYL may break-away from their Menshevik Comrades and strike-out on their own.

We must be prepared for what seems to be an Inevitable attempt at Overt Revolution.

A man full of warm, speculative benevolence may wish his society otherwise constituted than he finds it, but a good patriot and a true politician always considers how he shall make the most of the existing materials of his country. A disposition to preserve and an ability to improve, taken together, would be my standard of a statesman. Everything else is vulgar in the conception, perilous in the execution.

—Edmund Burke, Reflections On The Revolution In France

I honestly believe that their convention in Milwaukee is going to be one for the ages. With Bloomberg buying his way into the debates,(and losing badly in his first exposure to questions from the MSM and the attacks out of the gate), and the other candidates left getting some percentage of delegates, Bernie won’t get the required majority needed on the first ballot and it will be a brokered convention. That’s where they are gonna screw Sanders over again. There’s going to be some serious wheeling and dealing going on behind the scenes and I imagine Bloomberg’s wallet is going to be thinner after all that.

As someone at AOSHQ said… Milwaukee is gonna be lit! Buy popcorn futures.

At this point, just like throughout the 2016 Election, anything is possible.

The candidates running in the Democratic primary probably actually that if they’re just given the chance they could replace our Mango Mussolini (a term of endearment) as president but the PTB of the party know better. With enough support (and ten years younger) Biden might give him a run for his money. The Dem establishment don’t want Bernie because of his effect on down ballot races. They know, barring some kind of miracle, Trump wins another term. Their priorities are, in order, hold the house and take the senate. If Democrats hold the house they can keep the hoax investigations coming and thwart much of Trump’s agenda. If they managed to take the senate they could stop Trump and Mitch from filling judicial seats and stop all of Trump’s administrative nominations. These goals are at least theoretically possible without Bernie at the top of the ticket. If Bernie wins the nomination he will absolutely scare the sh!t out of more than half the country Democrats included. When the low information voters who finally start paying attention in September realize what the Democrats have done in nominating Bernie they’ll assume the Democrats have gone insane. They’ll stay home or vote Republican.

Just like I remarked to Mike above ‘anything is possible’ in this New Age Of Politics [that, frankly, I have trouble understanding].
