‘The Bookends Of Post-War Eutopia’

16 November 2017 @ 12:30

Over at SteynOnline, Mark and several fellow Mark Steyn Club Members offer some very insightful observations on the status of Jews in the World, especially in Europe.

-From Mark:

Karl Lagerfeld, the German couturier, caused an uproar on French TV over the weekend with a few remarks on his native land:

“One cannot — even if there are decades between them — kill millions of Jews so you can bring millions of their worst enemies in their place,” he told a French television show.

“I know someone in Germany who took a young Syrian and after four days said, ‘The greatest thing Germany invented was the Holocaust,'” he added…

The French TV regulator, the CSA, said it had received several hundred complaints over the weekend about Lagerfeld’s comment, and was looking at the programme.

The designer was roasted for the outburst on social media…

I don’t know why. His observation about killing millions of Jews and then importing millions of their worst enemies is as pithy a summation of the last eighty years of European history as anything else. It seems fairly obvious that these two acts — the Holocaust and mass Muslim immigration — will come to be seen as the bookends of post-war Eutopia, and that guilt over the former led to the insane embrace of the latter. Yours truly, five years ago:

Thus, posterity’s jest. Pre-war Europeans would never have entertained for a moment the construction of mosques from Malmö to Marseilles. But post-war Holocaust guilt, and the revulsion against nationalism and the embrace of multiculturalism and mass immigration, enabled the Islamization of Europe. The principal beneficiaries of the Continent’s penance for the great moral stain of the 20th century turned out to be the Muslims — with the Jews on the receiving end, yet again.

It would help to be able to talk about this issue honestly. But you have to be extremely successful and established and old enough to have nothing to lose even to bring it up.

That honesty will never come about because a sizeable majority of Europeans are in Denial about the problem.  Many, I suspect, have just given-up and simply hope that they can live out their lives fairly comfortably and die before things get really awful.  The thing is: Nemesis don’t play dat.

-From Sol Cranfill:

A spectre is haunting Europe – the spectre of suicide. —Groucho Marx

Interesting that the pithiest comment to come out of Europe on its suicide in some time comes from a fashion designer. The killing of 6 million Jews, WWII, demography-altering socialism, the importation of poisonous Islam worry the hip not a whit. The same phenomenon that made Marxism the hip new flavor when it was a wee spectre haunting Europe is that which makes the cachet of bringing in refugees Raspail-style so transgressive-cool. Unfortunately, the US faux-sophisticates take their cues from Europe in nation-destroying social welfare and on immigration policies that offer explosive growth. The high cost in the human toll makes it that much more stylish.

I stated a number of years ago on this site, and I still stand by the statement, that converting to Islam will eventually become ‘the thing to do’ for the hipsters.  Why, already, Muslim-influenced fashion designs are ‘IN’ these days.  How soon before we see, say, Beyonce is a pseudo-Islamic style outfit?  When she or one of her compatriots takes that step, well, the floodgates will be opened.

In a later comment, he writes:

…Those doing the overreaction betray themselves by their haste to be aghast at Lagerfeld stating the obvious. They spotted an opening for moral preening and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to score points. This is similar in the US as the left tramples one another trying to get to the morally superior ground first on issues like gay marriage or transgender bathroom privileges, because they are appalled at the thought of themselves being looked back on later as slaveholders or segregationists are now, but it doesn’t have anything to do with right or wrong. It shows their relativism and, once again, that it’s only as deep as wanting to be fashionable.

Interestingly enough, of course: the philosophical / spiritual ancestors of the overreactors were slaveholders and segregationists [perhaps the cursing of many generations for the acts of an ancestor was a good thing].

…visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

Exodus, 34:7

-David From Florida:

The Western European mentality is wrought with [cognitive dissonance] — they shed crocodile tears over the Jews they murdered or failed to protect, yet refuse to defend the few Jews left in Europe or those in Israel who are trying to defend themselves.

-Laura Rosen Cohen responds to David:

Quite right. Europeans and leftists in general are strangely fond of dead Jews. They go all out at the ceremonies, out-weeping each other, though they make sure to combine “Never Again” to antisemitism with Islamophobia/transphobia/homophobia/etc.

So, dead Jews, they like (moderately). Live ones, not so much.

But, then, why have so many Jews embraced Leftism over the centuries?  Perhaps, because, like their Gentile counterparts, they have been the Self-Hating ones?

-Edmond Watson remarks:

“The principal beneficiaries…turned out to be the Muslims — with the Jews on the receiving end, yet again.” Makes one suspicious that the deference to Muslims is actually another way for anti-semites to persecute.

As with so much of the history we have been taught about the 20th Century, I think it now Fair and Reasonable to say that the horrors inflicted on the Jews by the Nazis and the European Communists did not really change many European minds, did not make them shed their — what seems to be their instinctual — Anti-Semitism.

That Europeans saw The Holocaust and then Repented was just another Big Lie.

Of course, it was created and sold by the Left and, sadly, bought without question by the Right.

The best haven, outside of Israel, that the Jews have ever had continues to be in America. But this is changing as Leftist Thinking metastasizes more thoroughly throughout our Society.

However, I think Hope is still Alive in America because of the vastness of the territory we occupy. There’s enough room across The Fruited Plain for those of us, who seek to Restore the Freedom and Ordered Liberty gifted to us by The Founding Fathers, to gather in groups and mount an effective [and Truly Noble] Resistance.  And this will be made possible by the fact that there are enough of us who still understand why the fight to preserve The Founding is so important for the continued existence of Humanity.

” It shows their relativism…Relativism is the key word here. We would never fall for the ridiculous myths of ”diversity” or Multiculturalism without moral relativism.

Let me understand this. Jews were at the forefront of progressives. They urged massive immigration. They opposed the old traditions. They achieved what they wanted. Now they are reaping the benefits.

I should feel for them and the progressives?

They have doing this in the USA for decades.
