Bob Belvedere: Pet Lover
I have a lot of pets. Only four of them are cats. The rest are peeves – and, boy, I’ve got a boatload of them.
Over at Protein Wisdom, Friend In The Ether Sdferr posted the following comment a few days ago:
Shakespeare throw in stocks for penning Sonnets. Shut up Will! Just shut up!
He followed it up with a correction:

Actually, if SD’s intention was to ‘get with’ the modern way of speaking, the original spelling was correct – as with, say, ‘I seen him run’.
Drives me, with apologies to Ms EBL, batshit crazy.
Shoot me now.
…And don’t get me started on diff’rent or did’ent.

I’m afraid I don’t know much about grammar. But I do love kittens. So soft and furry.
Maybe it’s this twitter world we live in now. Every letter in a word saved and all that, but yeah I see where you’re coming from. Sometimes I even use abbreviated words like ‘ bout for about. SWIDT? Didn’t even save a space because of the punctuation.
I use ’bout [or words like ain’t] as a matter of style – to add a certain, desired flavor to my writing.
I suspect you do as well, Mike.
The words did’ent and diff-rent, etc, I think, started-off as lazy speech. Same thing with: ‘I axed you’.

I can’t play over at Protein Wisdom. They use OpenID, which falsely claims to work with WordPress. I can’t sign in to WordPress over there.
possibly you can rkae, if you work through the registration routine Jeff instituted sometime back. There’s a button in the left side-bar at pw. Mebbe try that.
aw crap, I apologize, it’s in the right side-bar, not the left. again, apologies for the error
Thanks for handling that, SD.
