Pope Francis – Dupe?

14 May 2015 @ 14:37

From what we’re hearing, the Pope sure seems like a Dupe of the Left – or, perhaps, it’s worse then that.

From the Instapundit blog, Elizabeth Price Foley commenting [worth quoting in full]:

VATICAN TO RECOGNIZE PALESTINE: The Vatican has brokered at “treaty” with the “State of Palestine.” The treaty reportedly deals with the activities of the Catholic Church in Palestine. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas is expected meet with Pope Francis over the weekend to finalize details.

The Vatican has referred to Palestine as a “state” since November 2012, when the UN voted to upgrade the Palestinian Authority’s status from “entity” to “non-member state.” Just last week, Pope Francis said the Vatican would canonize two nuns who lived in Israel under Ottomon rule as “Palestinian saints.”

It hasn’t been very long since the Palestinian Authority/PLO was widely considered to be a terrorist organization.

Well, it’s all part of a global progressive movement. Pope Francis has been dogged by accusations that he is sympathetic to communism. The Pope doesn’t help allay these concerns when he meets with Raul Castro, reinstates a Marxist “liberation theology,” vocally anti-Israel Nicaraguan priest who won the Lenin Peace Prize, invites a Peruvian liberation theology priest to speak, and hosts the World Meeting of Popular Movements, where he said attendees must unite ”against the structural causes of poverty, inequality, the lack of work, land and shelter, the denial of social and labor rights,” and confront the “empire of money.”

At a minimum, it seems Pope Francis is becoming very cozy with liberation theology, which is essentially a progressive/Marxist vision of Catholicism. A top Soviet bloc defector recently claimed that liberation theology was created by the KGB.

In light of this list of the Pope’s moves in support of Leftism, I tend to think he is not a mere Dupe.

Here are the definitions I follow when describing those who serve the Left…

-Mastermind: The directors of the Leftist Movement. Those like Marx, Mao, Lenin, Engels, Trotsky, Hitler, Alinsky, and Cloward/Piven who create the doctrines of the Ideology and/or often lead, philosophically and/or physically, a particular variation of the Movement. [This term was created by Mark Levin.]

-Apparatchik: A loyal member of the Leftist Movement who has attached himself to one of the variations of the Movement and works actively for it, every day. The Apparatchik performs tasks for the Movement without questioning the reason and/or logic behind it. Often this type serves in the Bureaucracy. He often leads the foot-soldiers [Fellow Travellers and Dupes] of the Movements.

-Fellow Traveller: Someone not a card-carrying, formal member of a Leftist Movement, but might as well be one because he advocates for the same doctrines and schemes. Provides aid and comfort, unquestioningly to the Movements.

-Dupe: A person who embraces the Leftist Ideology for emotional reasons, but is not well-read in Leftist Doctrine. He can be counted on to believe practically anything the Masterminds or Apparatchiks say and never question their motives. This is a person who chooses not to be very bright.

-Useful Idiot: A person of the Right who allows himself to be used by those on the Left. The Useful Idiot, in his stupidity, ends-up providing aid and comfort to the Masterminds and their minions.

I believe Pope Francis is a fairly bright man, from all of the evidence I have seen [though, certainly no philosopher, like John Paul The Great or Benedict], so I cannot conclude that he is a Dupe, nor, of course and obviously, he is not a member of the Right.

So, sadly, that leaves Fellow Traveller or Apparatchik or Mastermind.

What is clear is that this Pope is the opposite of the previous two wise Pontiffs.

What say you?…

…And should we be asking the old question seriously this time: Is The Pope Catholic?

I’m just pinning it on his Argentine upbringing. That country has had dysfunctional politics since Peron popped up.

I disagree that he is bright. I’ve thought since day one that he is a dumb as a box of rocks. That places him squarely in the Dupe category, or, at most, Fellow Traveler.

By your definitions I say he’s a fellow traveler. Seems that Thomas Lifson at American Thinker might feel that way as well.

He gives a fairly detailed list of Francis’ left of reality moves.

And Benedict started referring to it as the state of Palestine in 2012.

Priest at our parish brought up the “is the Pope Catholic” question at mass two weeks ago, which tells me he is hearing that question asked by a number of people either in confession or in passing for him to have to addressed it as he did. Not the church’s brightest hour at present.
