‘We Musstn’t Hurt Preciouss. Bad, Nasty, Hobbitses’

I wouldn’t worry too much about us Hobbits, Gollum….

From Walter Russell Mead we get the unvarnished Truth of what lies ahead [tip of the fedora to Ernst Schreiber and Instapundit]:

Between the infantilizing of campus culture and the growing global harshness, something has to give and—hint, hint—it won’t be the real world. The worst thing about the current climate of PC stupidity and mandatory cocooning on campus isn’t the ugly repression it entails. The destruction of free speech and free debate in the institutions that ought to be the citadels of intellectual liberty is a terrible thing and a horrible betrayal of everything universities are supposed to be about. But there is yet a worse consequence: the catastrophic dumbing down and weakening of a younger generation that is becoming too fragile and precious to exist in the current world—much less to fight the real evils and dangers that are growing.

Such people will be easy pickings for those who have taken up the cause of Evil in the World.

These Special Snowflakes will either join the ranks of the soldiers of Evil out of Fear or they will be the first to be put up against a wall.  The choice will not be ultimately theirs to make.

The only question for us, the non-precious, is whether we believe we have an obligation to save such fools from their self-imposed fates.  And the answer to that query can only be found in our own Souls.

Cruel times, indeed, are ahead.

As much as I like generalizations, I suspect that this affliction hasn’t completely devastated the entire college generation. As for the ones it has, they’ll never survive long enough to put to the wall.

But I was looking forward to seeing them up against – you guessed it! – an ADOBE wall.
