@Instapundit Calls For Obama’s Resignation [Updated Below]

16 September 2012 @ 18:46

Glenn Reynolds breaks with his habit of short and pithy posting to explain his reasoning.

A highlight [tip of the fedora to Stacy McCain]:

WHY BARACK OBAMA SHOULD RESIGN. Just for the record, this is what it looked like for a man who made a film that made the Obama Administration uncomfortable:

Here’s the key bit: “Just after midnight Saturday morning, authorities descended on the Cerritos home of the man believed to be the filmmaker behind the anti-Muslim movie that has sparked protests and rioting in the Muslim world.”

When taking office, the President does not swear to create jobs. He does not swear to “grow the economy.” He does not swear to institute “fairness.” The only oath the President takes is this one:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

By sending — literally — brownshirted enforcers to engage in — literally — a midnight knock at the door of a man for the non-crime of embarrassing the President of the United States and his administration, President Obama violated that oath. You can try to pretty this up (It’s just about possible probation violations! Sure.), or make excuses or draw distinctions, but that’s what’s happened. It is a betrayal of his duties as President, and a disgrace.

He won’t resign, of course. First, the President has the appreciation of free speech that one would expect from a Chicago Machine politician, which is to say, none. Second, he’s not getting any pressure. Indeed, the very press that went crazy over Ari Fleischer’s misrepresented remarks seems far less interested in the actions of an administration that I repeat, literally sent brown-shirted enforcers to launch a midnight knock on a filmmaker’s door.

But Obama’s behavior — and that of his enablers in the press — has laid down a marker for those who are paying attention. By these actions he is, I repeat, unfit to hold office. I hope and expect that the voters will agree in November.

I don’t think Julius Obamacus Nero Caesar will heed the just call of Glenn Reynolds because he doesn’t possess a single atom of decency in his corrupt body.  He is a Tyrant.

Therefore, the man must be Impeached.  And the proceedings must start right away.  The message has to be sent to those few people who are undecided and who will somehow get-up of their arses long enough to go vote on 06 November [02 November for Democrats] — the Honey Boo Boo’s, as Zombie calls them.

Alas, we know that neither Cryin’ John Boehner and Granny Mitch McConnell will have the guts to carry out their responsibilities under The Constitution, so we are stuck with having Election Day being our only immediate hope of casting Caesar from office.  As Smitty wrote regarding a related story:

My fellow Americans: this November is not the most important election of your lifetimes. This November is a referendum on the 1787 Constitution itself. While not passing myself off as a prophet, the early Obama Administration postvarication, where BHO supported Zelaya in Honduras, before realizing that was tipping his hand too greatly, would come around again in a second Obama Administration.

And given a second four years to drive this country into the dirt, Congress is bound to become as feckless as the Roman Senate in the later years.

I have no doubt.

If we maintain control of the House and gain control of the Senate, it is imperative that Boehner and his lieutenants and McConnell and his be overthrown and replaced with people who understand just how serious the American Situation is and who have the testicular fortitude to stand-up for The Constitution, to preserve, protect, defend, and restore our freedoms and liberties.  This is our last shot before we are forced to fire shots in the defense of America.

I strongly urge you to read the rest of Instapundit’s post, which contains more spot-on commentary by the author, his readers, and Eugene Volokh.

UPDATE at 2003…

Roger Kimball comments on Instapundit’s post:

Instapundit heads the piece “Why Barack Obama Should Resign.” That’s a good title. The column might also be titled, “Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid.” I remember a line from the philosopher David Hume that Hayek used as an epigraph to The Road to Serfdom. “It is seldom,” said Hume, “that liberty of any kind is lost all at once.” There’s the innocent seeming accommodation here, the turning a blind eye to official violations of the law there, and, bang, before you can say Saul Alinsky, people are being rounded up at midnight by brownshirted men for making a movie that embarrasses El Presidente.

Mark Steyn:

…the Egyptian president demands the arrest of an obscure American who made an unseen film. And whaddayaknow? Next thing that happens, back in the land of the free, a large posse of heavily armed officers descends on his apartment at midnight so that he can be “voluntarily” taken into custody for alleged “probation violations” – because, as everyone knows, in civilized societies breach-of-probation orders are always served at midnight on a weekend when the dark is so much more conducive to persuading householders to “volunteer”.

Putin must be laughing his arse off.

This crap makes me really upset. Mr. Obama needs to be removed, for the good of the Republic, and what it has come to stand for.

One has no trouble believing Comrade President would be perfectly comfortable with a law mandating beheading all who insult the prophet.
