The #BrettKimberlin Report D+13 Part III: Reports From The #War Front [Updated Below]

07 June 2012 @ 19:52

I’ve been trying to start this post since 1630 this afternoon, but new reports keep getting published…

-Senator Saxby Chambliss appeared on Special Report on Fox tonight and Brett Baier brought-up SWATting at the end of the interview [and even apologized somewhat for not covering the story].  The Right Scoop has the video here.

-Representative Kenny Marchant of Texas-24 has sent a letter to Eric Holder.

The press release:

Marchant Stands for Free Speech and with Conservative Bloggers Under Attack

Washington, Jun 7 – Congressman Kenny Marchant (TX-24) today issued a statement in strong support of free speech and conservative bloggers who are being targeted in dangerous “SWAT-tings” and asked Attorney General Holder to investigate these matters to see if federal laws have been violated by the perpetrators.

Recent reports of SWAT-tings have gripped the attention of the conservative blogosphere and are making their way to more mainstream media outlets. SWAT-tings are elaborate schemes whereby the perpetrator calls a local police department to report a violent occurrence inside the target’s residence. Unbeknownst to the target, authorities have been summoned and police units swarm the residence. These hoaxes are dangerous and are being used by suspicious characters to harass and suppress free speech, particularly that of conservative bloggers.

“I have written a letter demanding Attorney General Holder and the Justice Department fully investigate these SWAT-tings. These hoaxes are clearly intended to silence speech and rational political discourse and incite fear amongst those associated with a targeted blogger. These incidents also spread local law enforcement resources thinly. Any attempt to suppress free speech is one that ought to be taken seriously, and I will lend my voice and support to this cause to ensure that no one’s constitutional rights are violated, no matter what their political beliefs are. No one should be subjected to this treatment and I will not allow SWAT-tings to go unaddressed by the Justice Department.”

A letter has been sent to the Attorney General demanding an investigation into SWAT-tings. The full text of the letter to Attorney General Holder is printed below and a copy of the letter is attached.

You can read that letter by clicking here.

Yid With Lid proprietor Jeff Dunetz is the last blogger to be slimed by the person or persons who run BreitbartUnmasked.  Jeff has not responded officially yet, but a source tells me he is doing okay despite being assaulted [I will not link the BU post here and REMEMBER: if you visit the site, do not do it directly, but through Anonymouse].

-As I mentioned in my second The #Brett Kimberlin Report earlier today, the ACLJ has joined the battle.  Over at The Corner, member David French has published a post on this.

-Also over at The Corner, one of only two of their bloggers to have covered this story previously, Jonathan Adler, has published another one.  It’s not much, but it’s something.

More to follow.

UPDATE at 2025…

-So…the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee did not ask Holder any questions about the harassment of bloggers when they had him before them for almost the whole day today, like I had hoped.  From Michelle Malkin:

While House Republicans have not raised the issue in their hearing with AG Eric Holder this morning, look for exposure of this issue next week in the Senate as bloggers step up their pressure on Capitol Hill.

I won’t believe it until I see it — sorry GOP but you can’t be trusted, Mrs. Malkin’s optimism notwithstanding.

-Pete, DaTech Guy, is optimistic that things are turning are way.

-Over at WyBlog, Chris reports on a related story of judicial abuse that shows just how much of a slog this is going to be.  The Left has marched through all of institutions and taken control of all of them.  They are well-entrenched.

-Twitchy has up a report on the latest childlike babbling idiocy being produced by James Wolcott.

-Two good posts of aggregation and some analysis: Patterico and Radio Patriot.

More in a bit.

UPDATE at 2121…

-Instapundit links back to two posts he published in 2006 that apply, most definitely to our saga.

From the first:

As bloggers get more powerful, lots of people are likely to be tempted to try to silence them. This, however, is likely to turn out badly — like trying to stop hornets’ buzzing by smacking their nest with a stick. In all cases, the people who don’t like what the bloggers are saying should be responding with facts and arguments of their own, rather than trying to shut bloggers up. They’ll catch on eventually, but I suspect that it will take a few painful stings before the lesson sinks in.

Apparently, the bastards haven’t been stung enough yet, so keep on stinging.

-OccupyBawlStreet has published some recent pics of Kimberlin, so you can more easily recognize him [tip of the fedora to Stacy McCain].

-Someday soon, I’ll finish a Rule 5 post.
