The ink is black, the page is white
Together we learn to read and write
A child is black, a child is white
The whole world looks upon the sight, a beautiful sight

—Three Dog Night

Who knew George Zimmerman was beautiful as well as, more than likely, being innocent?…read on…

Chris Francescani of Reuters has looked into the background and history of Mr. Zimmerman and has concluded that both are more ‘nuanced’ than the media and others have been insisting. It is well-worth a read, but here I’m going to concentrate on the more, shall we say, ‘colorful’ aspects of the report.

A few highlights:

The 28-year-old insurance-fraud investigator comes from a deeply Catholic background and was taught in his early years to do right by those less fortunate. He was raised in a racially integrated household and himself has black roots through an Afro-Peruvian great-grandfather – the father of the maternal grandmother who helped raise him.

[Family friend Teresa] Post recalls evening prayers before dinner in the ethnically diverse Zimmerman household, which included siblings Robert Jr., Grace, and Dawn. "It wasn’t only white or only Hispanic or only black — it was mixed," she said.

Zimmerman’s maternal grandmother, Cristina, who had lived with the Zimmermans since 1978, worked as a babysitter for years during Zimmerman’s childhood. For several years she cared for two African-American girls who ate their meals at the Zimmerman house and went back and forth to school each day with the Zimmerman children.

"They were part of the household for years, until they were old enough to be on their own," Post said.

So…not only was George Zimmerman brought up in a racially diverse household, but he qualifies as being Black by blood.

Tip of the fedora to Dave, over at Classical Values, who comments:

That sound you hear is the press frantically trying to figure out how to update their ethnic style guides — is Zimmerman now a “black white Hispanic?” Or do we use the Obama standard (ever heard our historic POTUS called a “white black?” no you have not), in which case I guess Zimmerman is just… black.

As one of Dave’s commentators, Erik Robert Nelson remarks:

Sounds like Zimmerman is … American. Multi-ethnic, and thus difficult to place into a single racial group. Of course, on principle we shouldn’t even be having this conversation. If the racial roles had been reversed, I can’t see any pro-second amendment people changing their minds about things. Race matters only to those for whom race is significant. For most of us, it’s incidental to the facts. We might as well be talking about eye color, it’s about as important.

It is amusing, though, to see the media narrative further tied up in knots. Funny how reality can get in the way of political correctness.

Commentator HopeyChangey wins the humor portion of the thread with this quip:

If Obama had a son, he would look like George Zimmerman.

Do take the time to read the whole of Dave’s posting here and the comments — he has some wise and witty Friends In The Ether who frequent his joint.

I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to love every minute of this.

We’ve got the bastards by the short and curlies…and we shouldn’t let go.

Assuming makes an ass of you and me.

But then, with these people, responsibility is not a virtue they know.
