Hoist, Meet Petard

I just love stuff like this…

From OMG Yahoo, Jill Serjeant reporting, we learn [tip of the fedora to Wombat-Socho's Live At Five]:

Actor Robert De Niro on Wednesday apologized for joking at a Democratic fundraiser with Michelle Obama about the possibility of having a "white first lady" at the White House after November’s presidential elections.

De Niro found himself in hot water after Monday’s fundraiser in New York when he introduced Michelle Obama as the main speaker.

"Callista Gingrich, Karen Santorum, Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?" De Niro said. "Too soon, right?"

Newt Gingrich called the remarks inexcusable and divisive. Michelle Obama‘s office said the joke was "inappropriate."

I thought it was a rather witty remark. Definitely not in the class of, say, Oscar Wilde, but not bad, and certainly not offensive to any sane person.

But, as we well know, Leftism is a mental affliction, so the Raging Bull had to be knocked to the mat [guess he doesn't contribute as much filthy lucre as Bill Maher] for his PC-ishness.

The unfunny thing to come out of all of this was Newton Leroy, once again, responding just like a Leftist.

For insulting a man’s wife, coffee for four, two pistols, and dawn used to be acceptable.

Also, a ‘petard’ is a sort of primitive landmine. So Newt getting blown up by his own minefield. . .

I challenge DiNiro to acting at ten paces [he hasn’t done any for years].
