An Array Of Odd Elements [Updated Below: Bring Me The Head of Anthony’s Weiner!][‘Worst Press Conference EVAH!’]
That phrase comes from one of the sentences in DaTechGuy’s published op-ed in today’s New York Post [way to go, Pete!] looking at the Weinergate story.
The biggest problem for Weiner and his defenders on the left is not bloggers from the right. It’s the details of “#weinergate” can be understood by millions of ordinary people in 140 characters or less.
On his own blog, Pete reports that it was the Post that asked him to write-up the column. Obviously, the folks at that esteemed newspaper searched Le Blogosphere and discovered that he had one of the more original takes on the situation. But one has to wonder if there wasn’t some higher power involved [see: Hot Dogs, Hebrew National]. Stacy McCain may have the answer here.
UPDATE at 1905…
-Stacy McCain posts a very good explanation/lesson on why this story should be covered and investigated. A highlight:
The point? This story is what we call “news.” No matter how unseemly or inconsequential the story may superficially appear to be, it is entirely legitimate and potentially significant, and it is therefore a dereliction of journalistic duty to ignore or dismiss it.
Please do take the time to read the whole thing.
-Ace is rightfully po’d at the conservative media for not covering this story:
We’re Used To… embargoes from the liberal media establishment.
Having to fight the conservative establishment media establishment is one too many fights for me.
I was informed by a reporter that the story could only get cooking on Tuesday, when DC came back to work, and so I thought if we kept the story going by today the cavalry would come in.
But there is no cavalry. Still the same twenty bloggers covering it.
If you want the story to be buried, it will be buried, because I think I speak for a lot of us in saying we’re about to give up. It’s one thing to get the finger from the liberal media; it’s another thing to get it from our most prominent champions.
If there’s some reason the conservative press wants to run interference for the noxious anteater Anthony Weiner, fine, you’re about to win.
We did our part.
What gives? Is this just simply a case of the denizens of The Establishment pulling together to denounce the jejune ramblings of the unworldly vulgarians in their midst?
As much as I admire Congressman Weiner’s Gandhi-like forgiving attitude toward his assailant – as well as his world class ninja programming skills – I’m afraid this incident doesn’t just involve him. For, after all, what Internet user is safe when the person who hacked this unsuspecting Weiner remains at large? Okay, maybe not “large,” but still, come on man. Who’s to say this same criminal hasn’t somehow hacked my last 5 federal income tax returns with fraudulent deductions for alcohol-related blogging expenses?
I say no – we cannot as an online community let this tragic crime go unpunished…..
Hear! Hear! OJ-like, we must pursue the truth in this matter to wherever it takes us — at least until Happy Hour!

UPDATE at 2017…
-Weiner popped out for what can only be described as an awful performance before the press. At one point, he calls one of the reporters a ‘jackass’…mmmm…maybe, but this guy’s a real prick [and, i’m sure now, guilty as sin]. Stacy has the video here.
