Bob's Muse

-Sometimes it ain’t easy to support the Jews in the fight against Anti-Semitism as Jay Nordlinger understands

…As I’ve said a thousand times, Obama could bomb Tel Aviv, or mandate the eating of pork, and American Jews would still vote for him in overwhelming numbers….

…as Aaron Goldstein does, too…

Quite frankly President Obama could appear in full Nazi regalia, sporting a toothbrush mustache with his arm extended shouting, “Sieg Heil!” and still get a majority of the Jewish vote in this country.

It’s depressing and I’m not sure how we overcome it. It’s also a reflection of how topsy turvy things in The West that Christains are the ones who, with their votes, are more pro-Jewish and pro-Israel.

-Then again, stories like this make giving one’s support a lot easier. From JTA [tip of the fedora to Darleen Click]:

A Scottish municipality has banned from its libraries books by Israeli authors and that were printed or published in Israel. The West Dunbartonshire Council, consisting of towns and villages west of Glasgow, ordered new books by Israeli authors to be banned from the council’s libraries, according to reports.

The ban reportedly was ordered after last year’s raid by Israeli commandoes on a ship attempting to break Israel’s blockade on Gaza that led to the death of nine Turkish nationals. The ban followed a decision made 2 1/2 years ago following the Gaza war to boycott goods produced in Israel. According to that law, the council and all its public bodies are forbidden to sell goods that originated from Israel.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesman told the UK Express over the weekend that the boycott is not retrospective and that no books have been removed from libraries.

The council told the Express that 10 other councils had agreed to join the boycott.

The Scottish city Dundee also issued a recommendation to boycott goods produced in Israel, but it was set aside after city legal advisers said it was likely illegal under European Union law. The city instead will distribute posters throughout the city asking its residents not to buy Israeli goods and place a special sticker on products that are made in Israel.

Would the sticker be a yellow Star Of David, perchance?

TCOTS Contributor and Advice Columnist To The Morally Confused [the latest of which can be found here], Roxeanne de Luca, has been a very busy gal lately [fighting to save The Republic ain’t bean ball], but she did find time last Saturday to appear on DaTechGuy’s radio show with Little Miss Attila and have a lively discussion on modesty. The mp3 file of the broadcast may be found here. LMA’s follow-up may be found here.

The Oprah Winfrey Show is no more, but Oprah keeps rollin’, she just keeps rollin’ along.

Many commentators on the Right are saying she’s leaving a mixed legacy, some say it’s slightly positive, others negative. I’m sorry: I see nothing – not one thing – in what she’s accomplished that has done this country any good. That millions of Americans [the vast majority women and gays] hang on practically her every word bespeaks of the transformation of America into a silly, frivolous nation, which is the key symptom of a nation suffering from depravity and, therefore, decline. Now she heads off to run the OWN cable channel, where she can propagandize us 24/7/365/To-Infinity-Beyond.

It is a vanity project that will, if there is any justice, be soon consumed in a bonfire of economic judgement, because it is a set of tales, told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, and signifying nothing.

Will no one rid us of this troublesome priestess?

-To mark the occasion of Harpo’s farewell, NRO published a crackerjack column by Mark Steyn from 1998 on the Oprahfication of the World.

-Speaking of Mr. Steyn: he has penned another great and insightful obit, this time of Joseph Brooks. Brooks was the man behind Debby Boone’s big hit of thirty or so years ago, You Light Up My Life. He took the pipe recently, as he awaited trial on eighty counts of rape and sexual assault [yes, 80]. How much of a scum-sucking lowlife was this sorry excuse for a man? Well, his daughter Amanda commented when he was indicted:

I am grateful to know he is finally facing the consequences of his actions and that there is some justice in the world. My father is a bully and very scary.

He was an influential father to his son, who is now awaiting trial for the brutal murder of his girlfriend.

How can it be wrong
If It feels so right….

Yeah, it can. Brooks, degraded and wicked as he was, captured the spirit of the age, a time when the boundaries of morality, custom, and tradition were being erased and we were becoming a one state of depravity.

-There should be something like CarFax for homes:

Brian Betts wouldn’t have bought his Silver Spring, Md., home had he known that a man and his daughter were killed there.

Betts, the popular principal at Shaw at Garnet-Patterson Middle School, was found dead in an upstairs bedroom in his home April 15, 2010. He’d connected with the gunman who killed him, Alante Saunders, the previous day via a social chat line. Saunders and two other teenagers went to Betts’s home with the understanding that the door would be left unlocked, police said. They entered and Saunders went upstairs. He pleaded guilty in November and was sentenced to life with all but 40 years suspended.

Caveat Emptor, indeed.

Bet you can get a reeeeaaaal good deal on that sucker.

-We learned last week that the ringtone on Newt Gingrich’s cell phone is Dancing Queen by Abba.

Two thoughts:

(1) No wonder he didn’t seem to mind when the gay guy threw glitter on him at a book signing

(2) I think the musical tastes of all Presidential candidates should be taken into as serious consideration as their views, say, on Islam and Obamacare. Abba?!?! That’s a disqualification right there. You show me a candidate that likes Frank or Dino and I’m jumping right on that bandwagon.

-Live well, my friends.

Abba fans should be prosecuted, or at least persecuted.

    OMG what a relief!

When I first read the title I thought you’d been banned in Scotland!

    Time for a wee nip!

Great post, Bob! And there is so much there it is hard to comment back, but I’ll tell you this much, those Turk nationals that managed to get themselves killed while cruising the Mediterranean weren’t sunny themselves on the Lido deck when they broke bad with the Israelis sent to check on their vessel. Israel is no more responsible for their deaths then they are for the deaths of the kids these clowns send to market with explosives packed into their clothing.

What is patheitc and deplorable is the fact that the Scotts, a people who have had to take a fair amount of unjust abuse themselves, would be so willing to play the sucker. It’s one thing when people use you and you don’t realize it, but when these Islamo-clowns are so blatantly provocative, and you still end up seeing them as the victim, you’re a sad kind of dolt.

As to Oprah, has it ever struck you as curios that every month “O” magazine comes out with a new issue, and every month, it’s another picture of Oprah on the cover? Every issue?! Yeah, that’s a bit off. Could you imagine establishing “B” magazine (or “BB” if you prefer), and every issue that came out featured a photo of Bob Belevedere? As weird as that seems to you, a normal person, that’s how weird she is.

    That’s pretty dang weird.

The good folks of West Dunbartonshire should look beyond their library and be prepared to make hard sacrifices if they are so strongly anti-Israel:

The cell phone was developed in Israel by Motorola-Israel. Motorola built its largest development center worldwide in Israel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R&D facilities outside the US in Israel.

    Above data comes from

A lot of software is designed in Israel too. Anyone in West Dunbartonshire using Zoom Media Player, for example?

Did the folks in that Scottish town learn from history? No, no they did not.

Adobe: Here’s the one area where I believe internationl law serves a purpose.

RR: First they came for the Israelis, then they came for me….

Nicholas: Spot-on and ‘pathetic and deplorable’ are the exact words to describe these actions. As for BB Mag: I don’t get your point.

    GN6: Well played, sir!

Matt: I believe the term is ‘willful blindness’.
