The Piece Corps

13 May 2011 @ 08:41

In case you haven’t heard of this story: it appears hundreds of female Peace Corps [pronounced: ‘corpse’ according to the Linguist-In-Chief] volunteers have been raped and the people running the Agency are blaming the victims, and Democrats in the Congress are siding with them.

Stacy McCain has filed two reports on this that are must reads, here and here.

In the second one, he summarizes nicely the logic behind the Corps and, more importantly, the way Leftists [in this case Obama] think:

The Peace Corps was created by President John F. Kennedy as a haven for draft-dodgers and also to provide a government job for his useless brother-in-law, Sargent Shriver, who was the agency’s first director. To give you an idea of what kind of losers got involved: Jimmy Carter’s mother was once a Peace Corps volunteer. It’s a complete waste of time and money, which explains why during the 2008 presidential campaign, Barack Obama promised to double the size of the Peace Corps.

The Peace Corps is everything Stacy says it is and just another example of people who enjoy feeling superior to others, much like Prius owners do.

Here is near-perfect example of this kind of thinking in action, taken from the Comments section of Stacy’s second posting and written by one Wendy Lee:

I served in the Peace Corps and when I read things like this post, it is obvious to me that most people have very little idea of what the Peace Corps is actually about.

There are thousands of volunteers who serve each year and most of us do not receive terrible treatment when bad things happen. I experienced a serious security incident myself and my Country Director took care of the situation with great compassion. Each country’s Peace Corps operation depends largely on the Country Director – they are not all alike.

Besides, Peace Corps volunteers go into their services realizing that anything can happen. That is the part of the thrill and the experience. I think I can vouch for many volunteers that we wouldn’t want it any other way.

You are completely missing the point of the Peace Corps and the effect it has not only on volunteers’ lives but also the friends that we make in our host countries.

I am not making excuses for the Peace Corps and I am glad the congressional hearings happened and that they are taking measures to improve policies.

In any case, not everyone is brave enough or able to go to a country with new culture, new language, and entire new ways of life and leave two years later living as one of the locals. So, have a little respect. You can be critical of the failed treatment to victims, but in no way is Peace Corps “Another Bad Liberal Idea That Failed”.

Pablum meet puke…[cut to sometime later] dry meet heaves.

The responses by RSM and his readers are well worth a read, but I must quote our old friend Adobe Walls’s comment, as it is dead solid perfect:

“Besides, Peace Corps volunteers go into their services realizing that anything can happen. That is the part of the thrill and the experience.”

What a Dingbat!!
The opportunity to be gang raped is just part of the fun? It’ll be alright as long as the luck of the draw puts you in a country with a competent director?

As for the friends made in other countries, isn’t that like making friends with the lambs in a lamb chop factory given that we’ll have to nuke many of these countries eventually?

While it is clear that Mzz. Lee is a blithering idiot and that she does not represent the thinking of most of the people of her age group, what is clear is that people like her are most likely to enter government service and bring with them them do-goody-good bullshit and go on to wreck havoc. Any restorations of our freedoms and liberties will be ineffective if we do not purge the Wendy Lees from the bureaucracy. In fact, I might be willing to break from tradition and say: There ought to be a law against them being allowed to serve with a test I will volunteer to create and administer.

Do-Gooders have been the bane of our existence since The Founding.

Could This Be One Explanation?

One Final Thought: This is a story that deserves much wider dissemination because (1) American women are being raped, (2) the U.S. Government is siding with the rapists and the bureaucrats. It’s the triumph of multiculturalism. It’s goddamn disgusting.

The Peace Corps is just another part of the incompetent empirewe have built. Instead of the locals being afraid to harm Americans, they can do it with impunity.

Not to mention, we’ve taken another bad element from the Brits, and let foxes guard the hen house.
