The Spot-On Quote Of The Day…
…is awarded to Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, for his his succinct and dead-on-target analysis of those on the Left who immediately blamed the Right for the attempted assassination of Rep. Giffords and who, despite the fact that he was shown to have held Left Wing views, still continue to blame the Right [tip of the fedora to Wombat]:
To be clear, if you’re using this event to criticize the "rhetoric" of Mrs. Palin or others with whom you disagree, then you’re either: (a) asserting a connection between the "rhetoric" and the shooting, which based on evidence to date would be what we call a vicious lie; or (b) you’re not, in which case you’re just seizing on a tragedy to try to score unrelated political points, which is contemptible. Which is it?
None of this is surprising. It is one of the tactics that the Left has used, going back at least as far as Lenin.
Professor Reynolds correctly labels this a ‘blood libel’. The accusations are totally without a basis and are merely a reflection of the Leftist belief of ‘by any means necessary’, that it is permissible to do and say whatever it takes to further the Progressive agenda. We are talking here about a group of people who have rejected the existence of Absolute Truths and, therefore, do not believe in a governing morality that demands certain standards of behavior. For the Leftist, there are no standards. Everything is permissible. The end, Immanentizing The Eschaton, justifies all means. Such people cannot be reasoned with. Our only hope is to shame and discredit them by refusing to play along with them and laying before the world the evidence of their perfidy and moral treason.
