The Protocols Of The Elders Of Lying

24 July 2010 @ 13:21

In light of the revelations coming out about what the members of the JournoList were plotting and doing, one is forced to conclude that, while there is no grand, secret, Art-Bell-wished-for, Leftist conspiracy, there certainly was and is, as Jonah Goldberg puts it an ‘open conspiracy’.  Here’s his well done explanation of the difference from his latest column:

Many conservatives think JournoList is the smoking gun that proves not just liberal media bias (already well-established) but something far more elusive as well: the Sasquatch known as the Liberal Media Conspiracy.

I’m not so sure. In the 1930s, the New York Times deliberately whitewashed Stalin’s murders. In 1964, CBS reported that Barry Goldwater was tied up with German Nazis. In 1985, the Los Angeles Times polled 2,700 journalists at 621 newspapers and found that journalists identified themselves as liberal by a factor of 3 to 1. Their actual views on issues were far more liberal than even that would suggest. Just for the record, Ezra Klein was born in 1984.

In other words, JournoList is a symptom, not the disease. And the disease is not a secret conspiracy but something more like the “open conspiracy” H. G. Wells fantasized about, where the smartest, best people at every institution make their progressive vision for the world their top priority.

As James DeLong, a fellow at the Digital Society, correctly noted on the Enterprise Blog, “The real problem with JournoList is that much of it consisted of exchanges among people who worked for institutions about how to best hijack their employers for the cause of Progressivism.”

Stacy McCain has been covering the revelations and offered, as you’ve come to expect, some damn fine analysis.  A highlight from his latest:

…It has been pointed out that most of the people participating in Journolist were not straight-news reporters. Toobin and Klein are pundits easily recognized as purveyors of liberal arguments. So in a way this is kind of like what might happen if some liberal got hold of Bill Kristol’s e-mail caches from 2002 and tried to portray that as evidence of a Zionist neocon Fox News warmonger conspiracy — “Protocols of the Learned Elders of PNAC.”

Nevertheless, the Daily Caller’s Journolist revelations are valid evidence that the synchronicity of liberal media messaging during the 2008 campaign was not altogether coincidental.

While there is no grand secret organization operating behind the scenes coordinating all Progressive efforts and activities, there are various groups [some funded by George Soros] that are waging coordinated propaganda offensives in all areas of the media, new and old.  One way it is done is through disrupting blogs via trolling.

For those of you that are not familiar with the practice, here is a nice definition from Wikipedia:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion….

Matt, over at Conservative Hideout, has posted about one case of this that he has investigated regarding the issue of states seeking to use tricky legal means to usurp The Electoral College.  He got involved in a discussion of this issue at one blog and then, when visiting another, noticed the same behavior from some commentators in the latter that he had seen in the former.  His conclusion: ‘This is clearly an indication of a coordinated effort’.

Please do take the time to click here and read the full report and see how he quite correctly arrived at this conclusion.

Good work, Matt.

These Leftist think tanks are nothing but propaganda machines for The Party Line and, being the unquestioning apparatchiks they are, Progressives in the media are joyously swallowing their product without checking out the ingredients panel.

Let us not forget that it is the Left that goes around boasting all the time about how open-minded and reasonable they are [in contrast to the rigid and fanatical Right].  Methinks they doth boasteth too much.

How anyone could minimize the blatantly nefarious actions of journ-o-list boggles the mind. While not proving that each and every news story is coordinated by the leftist media or that all newscasts, newspaper articles or opinion columns are first coordinated by the left, it has been proven that the aforementioned disregard for the truth is not the coincidence some have thought. It should now be impossible for anyone not to wonder how much of the news fed to the public from the MSM has been vetted by the left in order control the information disseminated to the less diligent public.
