Walking In The Footsteps Of The Master

13 March 2010 @ 16:34

This is not a good town for psychedelic drugs. Reality itself is too twisted.

—Hunter S. Thompson, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

Stacy McCain is asking for donations for another shoe leather reporting trip.  He wants to cover the Senate campaigns in Nevada and Arizona and the TEA Party Express III tour launch in Las Vegas:

This is the kind of journalistic expedition that the Shoe Leather Fund has made possible in the past. It’s 2,341 miles to Searchlight, Nev. – 38 hours if I were to drive it non-stop — but Smitty tells me that flights to Vegas are cheap, so maybe I’ll leave the 2004 KIA Optima at home for this trip. Driving or flying, either way it looks like an extraordinarily gonzo trip.

It seems our friend is going through his mid-life crisis and wants to re-enact Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas trip.  The previous sentence was not meant as a criticism.  I think we should take advantage of Stacy’s unsettled condition and fund what will surely be some entertaining [and informative] reporting .  Most artists of the word function best when in distress.

When you bring an act into this town, you want to bring it heavy. Don’t waste any time with cheap shucks and misdemeanors. Go straight for the jugular. Get right into felonies.
