The State Of The Union: It Sucks Big Time [Updated Below]
For me it’s not going to be so much the SOTU — I haven’t watched one in years.
It’s going to be the endless fawning and on-air wringing-out of moistened media panties that’s going to get on my nerves because even though I won’t watch it either if I have a choice, it’ll still find its way into my online perusals and casual viewing of allegedly apolitical items like weather reports.
I wish SCOTUS would rule that actually going to the Capitol and staging a media event for the SOTU is unconstitutional. Write Congress a fucking letter like G.Washington did, and stay the hell home.
Such times call for the opening of bourbon bottles, with tarring and feathering to follow.
UPDATE at 1901…
-CORRECTION: Added link to McGehee’s comment — apologies tendered.
-Unlike what King Barack The Unready will do, Jeff Goldstein delivers a truthful State Of The Union speech [worth quoting in full]:
“Food Stamp Rolls in America Now Surpass the Population of Spain”
Sadly, this is one of his real achievements that, were this President at all honest about his actual liberal fascist agenda — which is to grow the government and expand federal power, ally himself with big corporate interests, shrink the middle class, destroy small business, hamstring the private sector, and create a permanent dependent class that will keep voting “in their economic interests” — he would be boasting about this evening.
Instead, he’s adopted the techniques of the Marxist / Communist reformation, using lies and distortions to blind the populace, framing his message in the language of free market capitalism and feel good populism (social justice!) while he simultaneously works to deconstruct the very foundations of just such a system.
There’s your real state of the union. So I’ve just saved you the agita of watching the jug-eared pinko try to manipulate low information voters (and timid Republicans) into willingly surrendering more of their liberties and more of their property.
Succinct and dead solid perfect, eh?
Former Army Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha said Tuesday that he has declined President Barack Obama’s invitation to attend the State of the Union speech, which was scheduled for the day after Obama awarded him the nation’s highest military award.
“He has decided to spend the evening with friends from his former unit, Black Knight Troop, 3-61 CAV, [and] his wife Tammy — with whom he celebrates a wedding anniversary Tuesday — and their families,” said a Feb. 12 article by CNN anchor Jake Tapper.
Both damn good reasons not to attend.
However, this would have been the clincher were I the Sarg:
The invitees usually sit beside first lady Michelle Obama and are used to highlight priorities of the the administration. This year, the administration has invited successful immigrants, a lesbian couple, parents of shooting victims, business owners and others that can be used to win sympathy for Obama’s second-term agenda.
If I want to sit next to tools, I’ll go down and sit in the middle of my workshop.
