Frank Marshall Davis And Obama
For the past month, I’ve been reading Paul Kengor’s latest book, The Communist – Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story Of Obama’s Mentor.
I was hoping to have finished it last week, but with all that’s been happening in RealWorld™, I probably won’t finish it until Saturday or Sunday. It had been my plan to quote from it extensively to give you a taste of just who this major influence on Barack Hussein Obama was. However, considering the circumstances and that the Elections are but five days away, I shall have to content myself with this brief posting.
-Frank Marshall Davis was a actual card-carrying member [#47544] of the Communist Party USA [CP-USA] from the 1940’s until his death in 1987.
-He was a black man filled with so much anger and rage at white Americans [and at Life, itself], that he joined, worked with, and defended a Party that sought the overthrow of the US Government.
-He was an unrepentant defender of Joseph Stalin, who murdered anywhere from sixty to seventy million people.
-From an article by Mr. Kengor over at The American Thinker:
Frank Marshall Davis’s politics were so radical, and so pro-Soviet, that the Democrats who ran the Senate in 1956 summoned him to Washington to testify on his pro-Soviet activities. Even more remarkable, the FBI placed him on the federal government’s Security Index, meaning that if a war broke out between the United States and the Soviet Union, Obama’s mentor could have been placed under immediate arrest.
-He was a pornographer.
-He was asked to be Obama’s mentor by Barry’s maternal Grandfather Stanley Dunham, himself a Radical Leftist.
-Obama cites Davis dozens of times in his book, Dreams From My Father, although he only refers to him by his first name, in an effort to hide his mentor’s Treasonous activities. Obama even wrote a poem about Davis, entitled Pop.
-I highly recommend this book if you want to understand one of the major influences on Barack Hussein Obama.
Time is short, so the following are a few parts of the book I marked…
-From page 107 of Mr. Kengor’s book:
…Frank signed up with the Chicago Civil Liberties Committee, whose mere title reflected a common tactic by American communists to seize the banner of “civil liberties.” This allowed them to defend themselves with the very U.S. Constitution — specifically the First and Fifth amendments — that the USSR spurned and which would be the first thing crushed in the establishment of a “Soviet American Republic.”
By forming groups with titles invoking “civil liberties,” communists easily duped liberals/progressives. Those liberals/progressives could then be counted on to help cast anticommunist accusers as “fascists” opposing fundamental civil liberties like freedom of thought and speech.
Frank served on the board of directors of the Chicago Civil Liberties Committee, and was eventually named its vice chairman….
And there was one more familiar name serving with Frank on the board: Robert R. Taylor, grandfather of Valerie Jarrett, top advisor to President Barack Obama.
-From page 130:
Frank’s November 9, 1946, article [in the Communist funded newspaper the Chicago Star of which he was Editor-In-Chief], which yet again mocked “the American way of life,” sat adjacent to a large ad plugging a coming Chicago appearance by William Z. Foster, CPUSA national chairman, with musical entertainment by Woody Guthrie.
The January 11, 1947, issue featured an “Exclusive Star Interview” with a Soviet scientist reportedly on the verge of a cure for cancer. If only America would stop its hate, urged Frank, the Soviets were ready to save humanity.
To the contrary, who was looking to drive a stake into the heart of humanity? The Star answered in the same January 11, 1947, issue: It was Republicans in Congress seeking tax cuts. In an article on page 8, titled “GOP would ‘spare rich’ with 20% tax cut plan.” the Chicago Star, sounding remarkably like President Barack Obama and the Democrats in 2010-12, accused Republicans of “phony” tax cuts that hurt the poor and padded the pockets of “millionaires” and the ‘corporation executive.” The rich were not paying their fair share. What was needed, according to Frank’s Star, was a more “fair” and “equitable” tax code that did not benefit millionaires.
-At one point, Mr. Kengor points out a fact that I had never even considered before: Obama has never written or spoken about a ‘Conversion Moment’ when he told the story of his rejection of Marxist-Leninism. As he writes:
Countless millions of Americans have had some kind of conversion, and most do not mind sharing it. Americans love to hear such stories because they remind them of themselves and their own ups and downs.
So, where is Barack Obama’s conversion, assuming he was, perhaps, once on the communist left and left it behind?
If Obama was on the Marxist-Leninist left, we have no accounting from Obama or anyone, of a switch. Quite the contrary, in Obama’s memoirs, we hear about him attending socialist conferences and “hanging out” with Marxist professors, but never any repudiation of those conferences, professors, or even a tiny, passing comment suggesting these were fanciful musings from a politically misguided youth. [pages 261-262]
Of course the answer to Mr. Kengor’s question is obvious: Obama has never rejected Radical Leftism.
Concurrently, Obama has never repudiated Frank Marshall Davis, card-carrying member of the Communist Party.
This is the person that sits in The Oval Office.
