Stacy And Meghan McCain: Common Ground?
Anyone who has read Stacy McCain’s writings for The American Spectator or, especially, his work over at his own site, The Other McCain, knows that he is a student of Hunter S. Thompson. In fact, Stacy prides himself on being the pre-eminent Gonzo reporter in America – and, in my humble, yet dead-on-balls-accurate, opinion, he most certainly is.
One of his well-known pet peeves is with the fame that surrounds his very distant [in more ways than one] cousin, Meghan McCain, daughter of Senator ‘Shameless John’ McCain. As Stacy has rightly pointed out many, many times: Mzzz. McCain is, well, border-line retarded, yet she enjoys a certain popularity with the Left because she claims she is a Republican, even though she holds very retarded, er, Left Wing opinions.
In other words, these two McCains will never be attending the same family reunion.
However, it seems that there may be a possibility that these two hard-headed souls may share some common ground that could spark a reconciliation.
In the Sunday New York Post, Barbara Hoffman interviews Meghan in her weekly column In My Library and we learn that El Bimbo likes a certain book by a certain author:
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
by Hunter S. Thompson
I’m obviously not an acid taker, but I love this book. There are a ton of great quotes in it, and one of them is on my Twitter handle: Buy the ticket, take the ride. People have said Thompson would be embarrassed by me, but there’s a video of him shooting guns and drinking whisky, and I love doing that, too, so I’m sure we have some common ground.
Perhaps…just perhaps…Stacy and La Stupida Putana have been graced with a way to reconcile.
The Lord works in mysterious and often humorous ways, eh?

She can read?
Audio Books, Dano.
” People have said Thompson would be embarrassed by me, but there’s a video of him shooting guns and drinking whisky [sic], and I love doing that, too, so I’m sure we have some common ground.”
That’s probably the greatest quote by Meg.
That’s the line that nearly caused me to have a stroke – I was laughing so hard.
Glad I had my seatbelt on when I read this! Almost fell out of my chair.
Apologies, but I just had to run with this one. If it’s any comfort, I read the piece whilst sitting on the throne and nearly fell off.
Bob, Stacy’s gonna cut the crown outta yer Fedora for this!
Not until he pries it off my cold, dead head.
Once upon a time “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” was considered a manual.
