Sign Of The Dark Times

23 February 2012 @ 10:53

From CBS-Seattle, we learn [tip of the fedora to the Drudge Report]:

Last weekend, 14-year-old Ashley Long told her parents she was going to a slumber party. But instead of spending the night watching videos and eating popcorn two blocks away, she piled into a car with a bunch of her friends and rode to a condo in Medford, Ore., where police say the big sister of one of her friends was throwing a party with booze and marijuana. After drinking on the drive, and downing more drinks in the condo, it came time for Ashley to take her turn on a tank of helium that everyone else was inhaling to make their voices sound funny.

“That helium tank got going around,” said Ashley’s stepfather, Justin Earp, who learned what happened from talking to Ashley’s friends at the party. “It got to my daughter. My daughter didn’t want to do it. It was peer pressure. They put a mask up to her face. They said it would be OK. ‘It’s not gonna hurt you. It’ll just make you laugh and talk funny.’”

Instead, she passed out and later died at a hospital, the result of an obstruction in a blood vessel caused by inhaling helium from a pressurized tank.

“It blew her lungs out,” Earp said. “It exploded them. It created air pockets in her veins. Then it went up into her brain and blew it up.”

I guess you could call this taking stupidity to a new ‘high’.

Seriously…

Am I the only one who has noticed that the desire for thrills being sought by adults and young people has become more extreme in the kinds being sought? That many cannot seem to find enjoyment in actions that are not death-defying?

No longer satisfied with the simple enjoyments of life, many are seeking kicks from ever more reckless actions, such as extreme fighting, bungee jumping, pill parties, marathon running, raves, bathouse sex, designer drug use, to name a few.

Could this be due to so many people not having to work that hard or struggle financially?

Could this be due to the Left’s successful scheme to discredit religious belief, to make it seem abnormal?

Could this be due to the Left’s successful effort to discredit the family unit?

Could this be due to all of the above and for other reasons, the result of which has been to empty the soul?

Could This Be One Explanation?

Well, Saul Alinksy dedicated his Rules For Radicals to Lucifer, so I just assume folks know Satan in on the Left’s side – he’s their spiritual George Soros, I guess.

I probably shouldn’t talk (I run a zip line/aerial challenge course for a living), but I believe that the entire “Extreme!!!” mindset is a biproduct of too much wealth, too much time and not enough challenge in daily life. 100 years ago, the bored suburbanites who flock to my course would have been content just getting through another 60 hour week without dying of lockjaw or influenza. Now, they have to swing through the trees or inhale gases or some other bread-and-circus style entertainment.

The irony, of course, is that my job is demanding and exhausting enough that, in my time off, I like to read a good book, walk my dogs or go fishing.
