NEWT DESTRUCTA EST!: The Ego Has Landed

18 January 2012 @ 08:24

In South Carolina yesterday, Newton Leroy made a bid to, as the kids like to say, grab a hold of The Narrative.

From CNN’s Political Ticker, Shawna Shepherd reporting:

Florence, South Carolina (CNN) – Newt Gingrich is urging competitors Rick Santorum and Rick Perry bow out of the Republican presidential race so conservatives can rally behind one "anti-Mitt Romney" candidate.

A reporter asked the former House speaker if the former Pennsylvania senator should drop out of the race. "Well I would be delighted if he decided to endorse me," Gingrich said, but added it was Santorum and Perry’s decision to make.

"So I am respectful that Rick has every right to run as long as he feels that’s what he should do, but from the stand point of the conservative movement, consolidating into a Gingrich candidacy would in fact virtually guarantee a victory on Saturday," Gingrich said in Florence Tuesday. "And I’d be delighted if either Perry or Santorum wanted to do that."

Tip of the fedora to Stacy McCain, who is on the ground in South Carolina and comments:

What the hell kind of talk is that, coming from a guy who placed fourth in Iowa (13%) and fifth in New Hampshire (9%), especially in regard to Santorum, who fought Romney to a standstill in Iowa?

Yesterday, Santorum was endorsed by Penny Nance of Conservative Women for America. Today, Santorum was endorsed by Richard Viguerie, a legendary figure in the conservative movement, and also endorsed by the chairman of the Berkeley County (S.C.) Republican Party.

Newt’s suggestion that Santorum should be “consolidating into a Gingrich candidacy” is preposterous and insulting, and enough to make me want to post this attack ad from Romney’s “super PAC,” just for spite….

Which he proceeds to do.

Rick Santorum beat him in New Hampshire and, as I reported yesterday, may just end up winning in Iowa.

To put it very mildly, Newton Leroy certainly has a lot of chutzpah, but I think it important to understand that his comments were not born out of just his towering and titanic arrogance.

No, no.

Methinks Newton Leroy is knowledgeable enough of history to understand that if he can rewrite Reality [ie: that he is the only person who can beat Willard and then BHO] the legend will become fact.

Newton understands the mechanics of The Big Lie.

The Lonely Conservative thinks Newton ‘has some nerve’ . Oh yeah ― big time.

As for me: he’s on my last nerve.

I’m not following all the excitement surrounding this sideshow. There is but one conservative running and that is Ron Paul. The rest are leftists with a penchant for bombing Iran for Israel and shoring up this tottering empire. Only Ron Paul will do what is necessary to restore the Republic.

But that’s the problem, isn’t it? Deep down Republicans and respectable conservatives (conservative my ass!) don’t WANT Constitutional government, state’s rights, sensible foreign policy or the end to the nanny state, they just want to control it so that can use it’s tentacles to enforce their view on others.
