The Attack On And Rape Of Lara Logan [Updated Below]
First the story, as reported in a statement by CBS News:
On Friday, Feb. 11, the day Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a “60 Minutes” story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently home recovering. There will be no further comment from CBS News and correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.
-I hate to say it, but I agree with Allahpundit about one thing:
In an ideal world the army would have shot the attackers on the spot, but you can imagine the chaos that would have broken out in the Square if Egyptian soldiers suddenly started firing on people. As it is, were there even arrests made? And why does CBS’s statement feel compelled to note that the mob had been “whipped into frenzy”? Crowds at all sorts of events get pretty frenzied, but good luck trying that with a judge if you use it as a pretext to join in on a mass sexual assault.
-The New York Post report has more details [tip of the fedora to Pam Geller]:
A network source told The Post that her attackers were screaming, “Jew! Jew!” during the assault. And the day before, Logan had told Esquire.com that Egyptian soldiers hassling her and her crew had accused them of “being Israeli spies.” Logan is not Jewish.
In Friday’s attack, she was separated from her colleagues and attacked for between 20 to 30 minutes, The Wall Street Journal said. Her injuries were described to The Post as “serious.”
CBS went public with the incident only after it became clear that other media outlets were on to it, sources said.
“A call came in from The [Associated Press]” seeking information, a TV-industry source told The Post. “They knew she had been attacked, and they had details. CBS decided to get in front of the story.”
Most network higher-ups didn’t even know how brutal the sexual assault was until a few minutes before the statement went out.
“We were surprised it stayed quiet” as long as it did, one source said.
Another source insisted that Logan was “involved in the process” of deciding whether to make her attack public, and ultimately understood why the statement had to be released.
-Some with sick, disturbed minds who claim to be on the Right are happy this rape happened. Donald Douglas and The Lonely Conservative both report and comment on the twisted pleasure Debbie Schlussel seems to be taking in Miss Logan’s vicious attack.
Donald quotes from Sideshow Freak Schlussel:
Hey, sounds like the threats I get from American Muslims on a regular basis. Now you know what it’s like, Lara.
Yup, I’m sure Demented Debbie gets physically assaulted and raped on a regular basis.
I don’t know how she can compare threats with an actual sexual assault by a gang of crazed beasts. And even if Ms. Logan is a Muslim apologist, which I don’t know to be true, nobody deserves this.
Exactly.
-As for those on the Left [who all have disturbed minds in varying degrees], this reaction is not rare:
After CBS revealed Tuesday that Logan had been attacked, NYU fellow Nir Rosen, who has covered the Iraq War, made insensitive remarks on his Twitter account.
“Lara Logan had to outdo Anderson [Cooper],” Rosen tweeted, referring to the CNN correspondent, who was punched in the head while covering the demonstrations in Egypt two weeks ago.Rosen has since apologized and resigned from the university’s Center on Law and Security.
The Lonely Conservative has a link to the details on Rosen’s ravings [with screenshots].
-As for CBS News, I think any news organization that sends a woman into that kind of situation is sacrificing Common Sense to PC ideology…..but, hey, ideas mean more to the Left than actual living, breathing human beings do.
-A very big Memeorandum thread can be found here.
-I’ll have more on this later in the day.
UPDATE at 1947…
I’m still trying to read what everyone has written on this, so I won’t have any further comments until at least tomorrow evening.

It appears Lara Logan got what she wanted. She is not a victim. Some people might even call her a tramp. Tramps are just tramps and seem to bring on much of the torment in their lives by their own decisions. Wonder if Lara got any money for doing tricks in the street? Will she claim that money on her taxes as a tax deduction for work?
This is so much like the horror of what happened to Gabby Giffords: those who are coddled and adored by the Left attack a perfectly nice woman in the most horrific of ways, and the Left then spends its time saying how the attack was justified, how it’s the fault of those on the Right, or how she had it coming.
An actual human, with feelings and people who love her, was assaulted in a way that is too frightening to comprehend. (My mind doesn’t even accept it – because accepting the full horror of that attack means that such things exist in the world. Beyond any thought.) I cannot imagine what she is going through and how horribly she is suffering.
I’ve long maintained that the good, solid, rational reason to keep women out of combat (or combat situations) is rape. Women can be raped, and there’s a lot of men who won’t find it tough to volunteer for “torture duty” when that involves getting laid and dominating a woman. Yes, men can get raped, but it seems to happen much less frequently to them than to women, especially in combat situations. Just mental.
Is Madison for real? Or is MfM playing heavy with the [/sarc] tags? If the latter, the humor escapes me. If the former, GET HELP.
Lara Logan needs our support and encouragement. G-d knows how she has suffered and what will be the consequences. We should pray for her well-being.
Ran: I don’t know. If you click on her Gravitar you see the picture full-size and it appears to be a picture of Schlussel photoshopped to look diseased. Her IP address is in Riverview, Florida.
