The Pablum Puke Of The Day
…comes courtesy of that acephalous aspersive ass known as Kathleen Parker*, who has penned a column on the controversy surrounding Michelle Obama’s royal procession stop in Spain and in which she manages to be both wishy-washy, trying to have it both ways, and asinine. A highlight:
Is it really such a terrible thing that the president’s wife took a few days off to enjoy the beaches of Spain? Yes and no. Michelle Obama’s trip, though expensive in the context of our dire financial straits, isn’t putting a dent in the Treasury. But as a political move, it could not have been more out of step with most Americans’ reality. The obvious reasons include the stagnant job market, the depleted fortunes of the middle class, millions of lost homes and, for many, the prospect of an insecure financial future.
A less obvious reason was revealed in a small detail. Reporting for Politics Daily, Lynn Sweet wrote that Mrs. Obama traveled to Spain at this particular juncture to comfort a friend whose father had recently died and whose daughter, a friend of 9-year-old Sasha Obama (who accompanied her mother), had especially wanted to celebrate her birthday in Spain.
Well, what little girl wouldn’t?
When many Americans are scraping together pennies to finance a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, the notion that a child must be treated to Spain’s beaches to celebrate her decade on the planet is a bitter pill to swallow.
On balance, the vacation was poorly conceived but hardly a crime befitting the condemnation. Perhaps of more lasting concern is the missed opportunity for the first lady to set an example of restraint and even generosity.
Question Mzzz. Parker: What was the f’ing point?
Please. Just. Go. Away.
There are plenty of useless think tanks you can go burrow into where you can issue essays that nobody will read.

The worst of this is that Parker half-gets it, then decides to ignore the big issue. Yes, Americans are freakin pissed that they can’t afford vacations but have to pay for Michelle to sun herself in Spain.
The trip was not “poorly conceived”; it is in line with the utter extravagance of the entire Obama Administration. These are the people who spent millions on their inaugural festivities, dumped more taxpayer money into their $100/lb beef entrees at parties, listen to Paul McCartney, and take quarter-million-dollar trips to New York. They do this while we starve, literally at our expense.
They do this, while ignoring the Gulf Coast (notice how no one is talking about that disaster, now that Obama basically owns it?), Haiti, and other areas that desperately need both political attention and economic stimulus.
If Kathleen Parker thinks that the Obamas give an airborne duck about any of us – or anything but themselves – she’s delusional. They are what the Left accused Sarah Palin of being during the campaign: no-class divas who are living it up on other people’s money.
