The Recline Of The West
Ran, over at Si Vis Pacem, continues to carve out a unique place in the Rule 5 World with his ongoing series of Retro Rule Five postings. In his postings, he usually spotlights the work of a single painter, but in one of his most recent ones, Ran makes an exception and provides examples of a particular type of work: the reclining nude. This is a style rarely seen in non-western art and this fact reflects The West’s Judeo-Christian hertitage which believes that the human body, as a creation of a loving God, should be celebrated.
He features three works by Paul Sieffert, Giacomo Grosso, and Luis Ricardo Falero, the former being more classical in his approach and the latter two more erotic. All three are wonderful examples of the type. Please do take the time to click here and enjoy them all.
Both Ran and I have posted works by Master Ricardo before [it should be noted that my posting was wholly inspired by his]. Master Grosso’s works are harder [at least for me] to find on the Internet. Luckily, some of Paul Sieffert’s are available. Here’s one of my favorites, Repos:
This next one is not a reclining nude, but I find it in the same spirit [I apologize for the substandard quality, but it was the best I could obtain; despite this, I think the artist's vision manages to comes through]:
NOTE: I was unable to discover the title of this one.

Bob, methinks the painting was likely titled “Nue avec mirroir.”
Cheers!
The title of the second painting is “Nude”. Really.
Apparently, Sieffert was a better painter than he was a title-er.
I knew from the descriptions I read of the artist that he has several works with variations of that name, but I was unable to confirm the title for that one. Thanks for confirming.
It is true Master Sieffert wasn’t very talented in the naming department.
