They Just Don’t Get It: Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn

24 March 2010 @ 11:03

Note: This is a new, occasional feature where I will put the spotlight on those on our side who do not seem to understand what this struggle is all about, what the stakes are, and exactly what it is we are fighting to restore — ie: those who JUST DON’T GET IT.

From Erick Erickson, over at Red State, we learn:

Last night Mitch McConnell said the mantra for the GOP in 2010 would be “repeal and replace.” There is a problem with this mantra — some in the Republican caucus actually mean they just want to redo what has been done and substitute some portions. Others want to repeal the whole thing and substitute something entirely different. See, for example, John Cornyn yesterday saying he just wanted to nibble at the edges, only to be forced into renouncing his own words in favor of some mendacious messaging about bipartisan cooperation.

The mixed up musings of the Republican caucus will do in the message.

On the other hand “repeal and start over” makes clear exactly what will happen and is in accord with the variety of polls out there showing the American people wanted Congress to start over before the vote this past Sunday.

The days of the GOP fumbling and bumbling around have to end.  It appears that the Republican Establishment still, despite everything, doesn’t grasp the seriousness of the situation.  Yesterday, the President of The United States signed a bill that enslaves every single American to the state.  Politics, as we’ve known it our whole lives, has changed.  The tyrant in The White House and his minion tyrants in the Congress have staged an overthrow of The Constitution.

This, leaders of The Stupid Party, is not a game — grow up.  This is a battle of survival against the forces of darkness and totalitarianism.  Now, stop wanting to be loved by the Mainstream Media and your fellow Senators and Representatives and the intellectuals, and fight for those of us who love and appreciate what America is.  If you don’t, we will turn our firepower on you.  Either s–t or get off the pot.

WOLVERINES!

I feel your pain … but you’re assuming they have the same goals as you or I do. All of the evidence however, points to one conclusion – they don’t.

It’s a tough pill to swallow. I know.

On would have thought that, like their Tory ancesters in 1938/39, they would have finally removed their heads from their derriers and have seen the light.

And now a few words about the state of Kentucky….

I love Kentucky. I love Kentuckians. Perhaps I am a tad biased on this topic. You see, my ancestry is steeped in the history of that state. Many generations of my forebears called Kentucky home. My maternal grandfather was born in 1894 on a tobacco farm in the small town of Hodgenville. He and my grandmother Loretta Doran today lie side by side in the small rural Catholic cemetery there.

That is the same town where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809. Right down the road from my family’s ancestral home (which we still own by the way) is the Lincoln Marriage Cabin where Thomas Lincoln married Nancy Hanks. If you ever get the chance to visit the place, check out the bronze plaque out in front. The words, to the best of my recollection (I haven’t visited there since 1989) are these:

“Donated to the state of Kentucky by Walter L. Clements”

That was my grandfather. He and his father, Walter A. Clements, also donated the Lincoln Boyhood Cabin to the state of Kentucky. The land that the Lincoln family settled on was owned by my ancestors. Like my granddad (or “Paw Paw” as we called him) the Lincolns eventually moved to Indiana.

I don’t think I can state it more clearly than I already have – l am just crazy about Kentucky and the nice people who reside there – Honest to goodness, I am! That being said, however, the question is just screaming to be asked:

Why do such good and decent people keep sending a flaming jackass like Mitch McConnell to Washington?

    I was just wondering.
